Secure Copy™ Licensing
How is Secure Copy licensed?
- This product is licensed on a "named server" basis. A separate license must be acquired
for each computer, whether it will be a source or destination. The license may not be moved to another source or destination computer.
Example 1:
I am replacing 1 old file server with 1 new one using Secure Copy to copy the data. This requires 2 licenses.
Example 2:
I am consolidating 10 old file servers onto 1 new NAS server using Secure Copy to copy the data. This requires 11 licenses.
Example 3:
I run a weekly incremental copy from a file server at a remote site into my headquarters file server using Secure Copy. This requires 2 licenses – one for the destination and one for the source.
Additional Information: It does not matter how many CPUs or NICs are in those servers – only the number of server computers are counted. For NAS and SAN systems, it is only the number of servers that is counted – not the number of storage nodes or disk arrays.
In clustered file servers, data is usually only copied onto one server in the cluster, so only one destination license is required, in addition to the licenses for the sources.
Do I need a license for every computer on my network?
- No, you only need a license for every source and every destination computer involved in Secure Copy operations.
What user license quantities are available?
- Currently, licenses can be bought in packs of 1, 2, 5, 10 and 25, or are available under an Open License for quantities above 50.
Why do you sell a 1-server license when I need a license for each source and destination?
- The 1-server license is for additions to existing Secure Copy licenses.
Example:
An organization already owns 5 Secure Copy licenses for copying between 4 source servers and 1 destination. They now want to add an extra source server, so they only require 1 additional license.
Can I move licenses from one server to another?
- No. Secure Copy licenses can only be used with the computers they are purchased for.
What are the 30-day and 90-day licenses for?
- These enable the purchase of Secure Copy at a lower cost when it will only be used for a specific project. You simply buy as many licenses as you need and from the time the license is installed inside Secure Copy, you receive 30 or 90 days of unlimited copying between licensed servers. Note that Standard Support (see http://www.scriptlogic.com/support/programs/) only lasts for the duration of the 30-day and 90-day licenses, and the licenses must be installed in Secure Copy within 30 days of purchase.
30-day and 90-day licenses cannot be extended or upgraded into non-time-limited or perpetual licenses.
What happens if I exceed my license count?
- Secure Copy will not run jobs when the number of servers you have created jobs for exceeds the number of licenses available. You need to purchase more licenses.
Is an evaluation license available? What restrictions does it have?
- Yes, a 30-day evaluation license is available from www.sc
riptlogic.com. It will only copy data between up to 4 servers, and will only copy up to 2500 files and folders.
Can I extend my evaluation?
How do I find out how many licenses I have installed?
- In Secure Copy, click on "Help" and then "About".
How do I find out how many licenses I've used?
- You will be notified when you try to run a job and there are more servers in the job list than you have licenses available.
How do I install Secure Copy on multiple workstations?
- We recommend that Secure Copy is installed onto either the source or destination server, not a separate workstation.
